The big news fm Basra seems to be this: Just as the Maliki govt secured peace in W Iraq by striking deals w/ local Sunnis, so it now seems to have bought itself enough of a constituency in the South that it could stage and wage major combat operations w/out much assistance fm the US. That’s more evidence that the central govt is gaining strength.

China lifts ban on non-Chinese versions of Wikipedia Internet, by: hpnotiq @ 3:04 am Add comments » Hefei – Direct Internet connection to Wikipedia has been restored in China since this morning with the exception of the Chinese version, which is still unavailable and whose domain name (zh.wikipedia.org) is still a filtered keyword. This comes one week after the similar removal of restrictions on connections to all non-Chinese content of BBC News website, and the unblocking of Google’
